Host specificity of pholem- and xylem-sucking insects (Hemiptera)

Host specificity of sap-sucking insects is only rarely studied as both phloem- and xylem-feeding species have to be reared on live plants, a serious logistical problem in tropical forests. We have developed a successful rearing method on caged saplings in the forest understorey and continue rearing these insects from numerous rainforest tree species.
