Transport

The Mt. Wilhelm transect can be accessed from the BRC campus in Madang by 4WD vehicles.

The high end of the transect (Piunde-Yaunde lakes, 3700 m asl.) can be reached by driving via Goroka and Kundiawa to Kegesugl Village (2700 m asl.), then continuing on foot.

The low end of the transect (Kausi, 200 m asl.) can be reached by driving via Usino and Brahmin. When road condition permits, 4WD cars can pass Kausi and reach also the Numba camp (with easy access by walking to 700 and 1200 m stations) and the Bundikrai station (1700 m asl).

The walking between all stations is easy; the entire transect can be walked in three days. There are porters (15 kg per person) available to assist with supplies and equipment.

BRC can provide transport in Toyota Landcruisers for individuals as well as groups. There is also a public bus transport between Madang and Kundiawa and village trucks driving from Kundiawa to Kegesugl. This option is recommended to more experienced travellers. Goroka can be also reached by air from Port Moresby.
